Living well shouldn’t be costly, if you know how it should accessible to all, and it should be how we are all living. By simply learning how to reframe our lives everyone should be able to make small adjustments in their existing surrounding to feel more open and connected.

I find that the idea of wholehearted “Lifestyle” is at times misconstrued as options for only those with money, time of affluence. This is not true, I believe if you can alter your perspective and relationship with yourself, you could be happier than the richest person in the world. They’ll still drive a better car than you, but you will have an abundance of all the things that matter. It is all a choice, and it is your choice.

Here are 20 easy ways to balance your lifestyle on a budget:

  1. Tidy your home, clutter will always make you think you have something to do, leaving you restless unnecessarily
  2. Eat vegetables as often as you can, there are so many benefits to eating a mixture of foods, variety is never as vast as in types of veggies available to us
  3. Find a place at home for movement and another for stillness, make sure you use them, it could be a chair to read in and a mat to move on, keep it simple
  4. Read under soft lighting, read things that will encourage you to look inward, or inspire you, or take you to places you have always wanted to explore
  5. Walk outside in nature as often as possible, it can be your local park, when you are there, observe nature, think about what that tree looked like a few weeks ago, appreciate all the coincidences that happened to make that leaf or flower possible, then remind yourself you are made of the same stuff, just in different quantities
  6. Unsubscribe and unfollow anything that promotes bad habits (unrealistic body image, unnecessary shopping - for things you don’t need) instead look for things that make you feel like anything is possible, things that will inspire you and make you smile
  7. Reduce distractions, anything loud, attention-grabbing or troubling to look at - put it away out of sight
  8. Buy at least one plant, caring for another living thing, helps us to feel perspective, also it will help oxygenate the home, for cleaner air
  9. Open your windows everyday, recirculating the air in your home is crucial for a happy healthy home
  10. Wash your bed linen and towels, a simple habit that sets the tone for sleep and waking
  11. Embrace candles and incense, scent is a powerful relaxant, it will help make your home feel calm and soothing (Scent and Sound blog)
  12. Wake up to a soft and gentle playlist, letting the body feel like its gradually awakening is better for your nervous system than an abrupt yelling alarm clock
  13. Get a good night's sleep, whatever it looks like for you, and prioritise it
  14. Create a routine that will help you keep to the basics, move, eat, clean, learn, hydrate & breathe
  15. Journal, for understanding, for gratitude, for reflection or for record-keeping, the practice of journaling is good for so many different reasons (Journaling blog)
  16. Self Care, one evening a week do something for you - a face mask, a bath with candles,  a movie night, a yoga class, a good book, whatever it is make it about whatever you need and want that day. No excuses, do it because you want to, and you deserve to get your needs met. (Self love blog)
  17. Do something creative, take yourself back to school, what did you enjoy, drawing, doodling, painting, dancing whatever it was, reconnect to it, have fun with it and see what it ignites in you, joy, love, happiness - know this is something you can cultivate anytime you need to
  18. Reach out to an old friend, someone you miss, and tell them you miss their presence in your life. (They might not get back to you - but putting it out there is worth it)
  19. Reorganise your treasured possessions, clothes, shoes, jewellery, books - whatever it is, each of these treasures will take you to somewhere forgotten in your memories, relive all the good ones
  20. Sit in stillness and breathe. This is how you tell your body that you are ok, the more you do this, the easier it becomes and the more benefits it will appear.

You do not have to be a Yoga teacher or live on the beaches in Sri Lanka to have a wholehearted life, you can have one in your current home, with your current things, surrounded by your current loved ones. Living wholeheartedly is an internal change and best of all, what you have, what you look like or how much stuff you have is irrelevant.

Reach inside, she is beautiful and messy but she is your best chance at being balanced, healthy and happy.
