The Stories We Tell Ourselves

minute read

One day you will look back upon the things you believed and it will seem as if someone else’s voice was directing you. The voice inside will evolve if you let it, allow it the space to learn from your mistakes, and test the theories that the child version of you learned to believe. Trust, be brave and create new beliefs for yourself to live by. Once you start to listen, you’ll embark on a deeper understanding of yourself and the world around you.

The stories we tell ourselves are just that, stories, they needn’t be truths that have a hold over us. If you do, live your thoughts every day they may become your truth, limiting you in a way that reduces possibility, opportunity and freedom. Move beyond your fears, resistance and your stories.

What you believe about yourself is not all there is, there are many ways you can change, choose and develop. Think of all the things you love about yourself and focus here until the story quietens, then build, bit by bit moving into the space created by the silencing of the past stories, moving towards the space and the light that you can create by self-discovery, self-awareness and self-compassion.

What is the worst that would happen if you like yourself a little bit more, gave yourself more time to understand You and had some patience for the facts, not the stories? Imagine a place that was judgment-free and inviting, one where you could be exactly as you are. There is such a place, it lives inside of you, it's been there all long, you need to trust it, trust her, she is the only person who will be with you through it all until the end. Befriend that person inside, forgive her for any lapses in judgement you made together and find a way to be united.
