Ninh Binh Vietnam, The “Inland Ha Long” of Temples and Tranquillity

May 30, 2025
minute read

Ninh Binh is a quieter soul in northern Vietnam, a patchwork of rice fields, rivers, and limestone cliffs that echo the shape of Ha Long Bay, but on land. Known as the ancient capital of Hoa Lu, this region has an energy that invites slow travel and quiet awe.

Things to Do in Ninh Binh:

  • Boat ride through Tam Coc or Trang An grottoes (Trang An is UNESCO-listed)

  • Visit Bich Dong Pagoda, nestled into the side of a mountain

  • Climb to Hang Mua Peak for panoramic views over the rice paddies

  • Explore ancient Hoa Lu temples dating back to the 10th century

What to Wear: Comfortable clothing for cycling, walking shoes, hat, bug spray.

Be Mindful Of: The midday heat — mornings and late afternoons are ideal for most activities.

Conscious Travel Note: Support bicycle tours run by locals and avoid overcrowded boat rides; opt for early morning departures to reduce impact.
